Heaven & Helsinki

October 17, 2012

This collection arrived earlier in the summer, but the warm tones were calling out for a comfy throw for chilly fall nights. I cut it into 5″ strips to make this simple quilt which really shows off Patty Young’s fun prints.

It was off to Melissa at SewShabbyQuilting for some custom quilting to complement the simple lines.

And a Woolies flannel back keeps it cozy. (The flannel is on sale for $9 /yard).

I’ve packaged 5″ strips of this collection – you can make the 42″ x 48″ quilt as shown (just reserve 3 strips, cut in half lengthwise, for a scrappy binding). Or you can cut those strips into 112 – 5″ charm squares to use in your favorite charm pattern. Or cut them in half lengthwise for 28 – 2.5″ jelly roll strips to use as you wish. The possibilities are endless.

I’ve got a package of strips to giveaway, along with a copy of the Fall issue of GenQ magazine. Just leave a comment and let me know what pre-cut you just can’t resist (or can’t wait to try!)

October 24 – The giveaway is now closed. The winner was Jo, who confessed “I recently purchased a mini charm pack (Vintage Modern) that I thought might be fun to try. Oh and a couple of layer cakes fell into the basket too! oops!

So fun! I don’t buy a lot of precuts, but when I do I tend to get jelly rolls. I’m thinking that the Brr! line would be fun in a jelly roll. Thanks for the giveaway Pam!

I don’t buy a lot of pre-cuts either, but jelly rolls are definitely my fave! There are a lot of great quilts you can make with 2.5″ strips.

I saw Dr. Mr. Claus at my LQS and practically swooned on the spot. Grabbed two charm packs and some yardage not included in the packs. No plans for them yet, but just looking at them thrills me to my fingertips! I think I’m going to start collecting charm packs because they are just so darn handy!

I am just not sure of purchasing precuts – they look so scrappy and I am not a scrappy girl :-) But I love the look of it in quilts. If I could just get over sewing them myself.
All those colours are amazing together.

I think I would like to try the Kona Solids pre-cuts, perhaps in the brights. Although this set is pretty nice, too.
