Rags to Roses

June 16, 2012

A couple of rag quilts to inspire you –

The quilt on top was made by Cheryl Simser from a bundle of Amy Butler’s Soul Bossoms. Cheryl used 48 – 7″ squares and 1/2″ seams, so finished squares are 6″. The back of the quilt is natural muslin from Robert Kaufman.

The quilt underneath features the tropical colors of Pillow and Maxfield. It was made from 36 – 8.5″ squares and 3/4″ seams, so finished squares are 7″. The back is natural flannel, also from Robert Kaufman. Thanks to Maggie Ziehl for sewing this one up for the shop.

A close up:

A bundle of 9 or 10 fat quarters long with 2.5 yards of backing fabric will make a quilt about 40″ x 40″. The Freshcut legacy collection from Heather Bailey would also make a sweet rag quilt.

Use the coupon JUNE15 to save 15% on the Pillow & Maxfield and Freschut bundles, as well as the natural muslin and flannel for the backing. Coupon is good until the end of the month. (There is only one bundle of Soul Blossoms left and it’s already marked down, along with the remaining yardage at $6 /yard).

While you’re in the shop, don’t forget to check the summer sale for savings on Delighted!, Lush and Aqua Red color story fabrics. There’s also the Sun, Sea and Sky sale with savings of 25% on selected bundles of Kona cotton while they last.

I’ll be in the garden if anyone is looking for me. Have a terrific weekend!

Lovely! I just made my first two rag quilts last week…one of a batik layer cake and the other of dirt bike prints…for the grandson. They sure arequick and easy.

I use a rotary pinking blade for my rag quilts and then I don’t have to cut all the edges. Makes it a lot faster with the pinked edge instead of all the tags.
