Work in Progress

February 8, 2012

Last week I got together with some local quilting friends to start work on a sampler project. We’ve decided to try at least some of the blocks in the Mini Patchwork Sampler Quilt Tutorial Series. The first was this rail fence block. I had a hard time deciding whether to use yardage or scraps for this project, but made a last minute decision to raid my blue/green scrap bin. The little pieces in these blocks are perfect for using up those small scraps.

The first quilt I ever made was a Block of the Month program running at my LQS. At the time I was busy with 2 (and then 3) little ones at home, and the goal of making one block a month was something I could aim for.  Now I find myself busy in other ways, and the goal of making one block a month is starting to look good again! In addition to the Mini Patchwork Series, there are some other BOM programs out there that are tempting me right now.

For each month in 2012, Jeni will present a quick tutorial for a traditional quilt block using half-square triangles. A whole year of half square triangles would definitely improve my technique!

Amy Gibson has a Block of the Month offered free through Craftsy. It looks like Amy will be tackling a variety of techniques in the year-long series, including curves and paper piecing. The video tutorials make it seem like you are in a classroom, and you can also print the course materials that go along with each session.

The girls over at Quilt Story are starting their program in March. You can find the details here (and you can drool over their fabulous fabric choices at the same time!)

So many choices ….
