Blog Hop Party Giveaway

December 9, 2011

The Blog Hop Party starts tonight at midnight. I’m giving away a set of five quilt patterns from Threaded Pear Studio. This is a great mix of patterns for throw-sized quilts and they all sew up quickly (in an afternoon or two!)

I’m looking for some new Christmas tunes (I’ve got a very dated selection of CD’s) and could use your help putting together a new playlist. Leave a comment with your favorite song for the holidays (or anti-holidays, if you prefer) for a chance to win the patterns. And then hop over to the Quilting Gallery for a list of participating blogs and a chance to win more great prizes. The giveaway will close on December 17th, and I’ll announce the winner on the 18th. Good luck!

The year end clearance sale continues in the shop, with terrific deals on fabric and patterns. Also save 20% for one week only on Delighted! from The Quilted Fish for Riley Blake.

The giveaway is closed.

  3. December 9, 2011 7:26 am

You can never go wrong with “A Charlie Brown Christmas” by Vince Guaraldi, but I’ve been adding the odd song from the “Christmas Remixed” albums to lighten things up. Some of them are bad, but a few are fun. That’s the beauty of itunes – you get the chance to listen first. Some I like:
Happy Holiday (Beef Wellington Mix) – Bing Crosby
The Nutcracker Suite (Baz Kuts Breaks Mix) – Berlin Symphony Orchestra
Baby It’s Cold Outside (Mulato Beat Remix) – Louis Armstrong
I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm (STUHR Remix) – Kay Starr
But them, I like Dub Step, so maybe I’m not a good one to ask!

My favourite Christmas album is Hawksley Workman’s Almost a Full Moon, which is almost entirely original music and includes my favourite Learn How to Knit (I can’t find it on youtube, but the lyrics go something like, “I don’t have a cent this Christmas, usual it seems, so I’m going to learn how to knit .. I’ll knit you a sweater, I’ll knit you a scarf, I’ll knit you a cigarette holder, I’ll knit you an aeroplan to fly and meet me here, I’ll knit you the nicest taxicab to pick you up from the airport when you get in…”). A lot of the songs are kind of fun and silly (like the aforementioned knitting song or Claire Fontaine which is a love song to a pad of Claire Fontaine brand of paper or Common Cold about the nice things about being sick), and a few are sweet. The only traditional song is a take on Silent Night.
