Summer Reading Part 5

August 8, 2011

City Quilts by Cherri House was published by Stash Books last year, and remains strong on my list of favorites. Cherri combines simple geometric shapes and solid colors in a dozen quilts inspired by the modern urban architecture and landscapes in Houston, the city where she lives. Along with the instructions, the book gives you a glimpse at Cherri’s design process, as well as techniques for making and finishing your quilts. If you’re thinking of taking the plunge with solids, I’ve kitted several of the quilts for the shop – look for City Lights (the cover quilt), City Green, City Harbor, City Shops, and City Tracks. I think they make great wall art as well as quilts, and are an excellent option when trying to find something to make for the boys (or men) in your life.

Simply Solid Quilts and {Kona} cottons are two Flickr groups to check for more great ideas on how to use solids. Don’t forget to share your own beautiful work on Flickr!

I’m giving away a copy of the book – you still have time to enter the sponsored giveaway over at True Up (I think Kim is taking comments until Thursday, August 11). Good luck!

Remember you can use RPC13 at the checkout for 13% off all orders over $50 until August 15.
