I finally got back to the sewing machine after a prolonged absence. I’m working on these blocks:
The pattern is Off The Rail from Jaybird Quilts. It’s a new pattern in the shop, along with 2 more from Julie – Hugs and Kisses and Fast Forward. This one is fat quarter friendly (20 for my picnic quilt) and has instructions for 4 sizes from baby to king. I’m using my Denyse Schmidt Picnic and Fairgrounds bundle that I picked up on Etsy a while ago. The blocks go together quickly, and it should be ready for quilting in the next few days.
Last year I made this version of a Modern Rose Garden, perfect for a summer picnic:
There are stll a few kits available. Another pattern that would make a simple quilt for outdoor use is Valori Well’s Daphne Throw. Pick two fun fabrics and a third for accent, and sew this quilt up in a day!
There have been lots of picnic (or beach) quilts popping up in blogland recently. You can see Rachel’s beach quilt here, and Ashley’s picnic quilt here. How about a Squares and Stripes picnic quilt? And there’s a Flickr group devoted to picnic quilts – why not add your own creation to the pool?
