Fat Quarterly Quilt Along

April 19, 2011

This week I was using up the last of the Botany jelly roll. I had 8 strips of yellow left, and I added a solid yellow to make 9, plus 9 strips of Snow. 18 strips was enough to make 36 blocks from the Fat Quarterly quilt along, which made a baby size 36″ x 36″ quilt. I had hoped to have the quilting done too, but time ran out.

The jelly roll summary – 3 baby quilts and 2 table runners. I also used a yard of coordinating fabric, two rolls and several yards of Kona Snow for sashing and backing, some fleece for backing one of the quilts, and Kona Buttercup for backing the last quilt. The total cost for all the projects was only about $100, since the Botany roll was bought on sale for $23. Very reasonable, I’d say.

I indulged in some online shopping of my own this week. This is a new collection from Denyse Schmidt available at Joann’s in the States, and Etsy everywhere.

 I can hardly wait!

I submitted my challenge to the local patchwork group last night needless to say I didn’t win, although I did get a few nice comments. I feel a bit down, I was so proud of the bag I had made and honestly it is one of the best things I have done and it looked really pathetic against all those other small quilts wall hangings and other bags. I keep telling myslef I quilt because I enjoy it and if something is worth doing it is worth doing even if you don’t do it as well as other people.
Well once I have finished my son’s bed quilt I have the quilting to do on my brother’s quilt and a kona bay Japanese style quilt cut out ready. I am hoping to finish my son’s hand quilted quilt this week and machine quilt my brothers next week when we are on holiday for Easter.
Good to have someone to tell if I talk to anyone around me I bore them to death.

Love the yellows and white – so springtimey! Did the Joann’s say they had the Denyse Schmidt? I’ve had trouble tracking it down!

I’ve heard that it’s hit and miss in Joann’s – some have it, but maybe don’t know they have it. I bought mine on Etsy, since I’m in Canada, it was easier.

Damn you, I was perfectly happy without buying the DS stuff, until I saw your stack!
