A giveaway for spring

April 1, 2011

Two great reasons to celebrate – it’s spring (at least by the calendar!) and it’s been three years since Mad About Patchwork first opened its online doors for shopping. But who really needs an excuse for a giveaway?

I’ve got two yummy choices for you this time out – and three chances to win. Batiks strips or solid fat quarters – both in pretty pastel shades for spring – you choose! Leave a comment telling me which one you’d prefer. Two chances to win if you leave a second comment with a pattern (free or otherwise) that you could make with your choice. And a third chance to win … leave another comment if you’re a follower. Open for comments until 10:00 pm (or so) on April 7, winner to be announced on April 8. Good luck!

p.s. there are two ways to become a follower from the toolbar on the right – you can click on the orange RSS feed button to subscribe or sign up for an email subscription.

I would definitely need to choose the Easter solids…my kids would love them!

  19. April 1, 2011 12:50 pm

Also, I’d be using them to make my girls’ Easter bonnets. This is the first time I’m going to be doing it, and technically I’m less into bonnets and more into plain old hats. But I just bought the Oliver +S Little Things to Sew book and there’s a cute pattern for reversible hats in it. You can see a picture of the hat in the mosaic here: http://www.oliverands.com/book/

I’d like to use the strips in a strip pieced quilt. I’d cut triangles out of pieced strips and stitch the triangles to contrasting half square triangles to make squares. Or, I could cut the pieced strips into squares instead of triangles. Then add triangles to each side of the squares, then put them on point which is a favorite setting for me. Either 3 plain borders of differing widths and values or a piano key border to finish it up. Thanks!

She has this neat block pattern on her blog for the “Dry in the Shade” block ( http://lizzyhouse.typepad.com/cherry_house_quilts/2011/02/a-primer-on-pairing-solids-and-prints.html ). I think it would look amazing using the pastel solids! Thanks for the super contest!
