Baked Fresh Daily
I was completely taken by surprise a few weeks ago when the sign on the door of my small town bakery indicated they had closed … permanently. I’ve been buying bread there, baked fresh daily, for 15 years. My children were raised on that bread. Luckily for me, there’s another little bakery not too far down the road in a neighbouring village. I can make the weekly trip to satisfy my need for almost-like-homemade bread.
Luckily for you (and me) there’s an excellent online bakeshop that is always open. The Moda Bake Shop is chock-a-block full of recipes (patterns) designed to use with Moda’s terrific range of precuts. In case you’re wondering, precuts are bundles of fabric, usually a whole collection, which have been conveniently pre-cut into squares or strips. Honeybuns – 1 ½” strips; jelly rolls – 2 ½” strips, charms – 5″ squares, layer cakes – 10″ squares.
There are lots of lots of terrific ideas to be found in the online bakeshop – for quilts & more. These adorable Fabric Fortune Cookies are by Megan over at BrassyApple. She’s used 5″ charm squares to make these fun party favors or thank you notes, great for many occasions … personalized with your own messsage of course. Simple, fresh & fun!
The recipes are designed for precuts, but often present a great opportunity to use up your stash. You can easily cut your own jelly roll strips, or charms, or whatever from your scraps when you finish a project. Organize them in bins, and you’ll be ready to sew when you find the perfect recipe.
thanks for the shout out! These are really fun to be crafted up for SO many events – big and small! :)
Those fortune cookies are CUTE! Great idea.
