Beach Quilts

March 25, 2010

Sometimes a simple quilt is all that’s needed. Take a look at this beach quilt, one of the patterns from Denyse Schmidt Quilts:

Beach Quilt in the DR

I made this super simple quilt a couple of years ago with just 2 fabrics from an old Lakehouse collection, with a coordinating Kona Solid. A quilt top like this can handle some fairly dense quilting, and this one’s quilted all-over in a wonderful circular pattern called Sticky Buns. It came with me on a family trip to Cabarete, DR and was a wonderful addition to the poolside cabanas at our hotel. It’s been washed many times since, but I still think I can smell the ocean air whenever I take it out of the cupboard.

I no longer have the fabric or book in stock, but here’s something similarly simple from Valori Wells:

Great for a day at the beach, or a picnic blanket, or a play mat for baby. You can find it here.
