Quilty ramblings

March 5, 2010

I’m finally getting things in order after two weeks of enjoying the Winter Olympics unfold on TV. I did manage to get quite a few bindings attached while keeping an eye on the events. I’d like to give a great big thank you to the ladies of the Cornwall Quilters Guild who so kindly kept an eye on my booth whenever I needed a break last weekend. The quilt display was delightful, with many wonderful things to see. I was able to catch the two evening speakers – Elizabeth Dillinger from the Art of Fabric in Toronto, and  Garnet Smalley from Cotton-By-Post in Ailsa Craig (London). On Friday night, Elizabeth spoke about her award-winning art quilts, and had many of them there for us to admire. Although my quilting aspirations lie elsewhere, it wasn’t hard to appreciate the talent and effort it takes to produce a work of art like Elizabeth’s. On Saturday night, Garnet entertained us with stories of the three successful international quilt exhibitions (Russia, Africa and Ireland) he has brought to the small town of Ailsa Craig (pop. 900!) He also gave us a sneak preview of this year’s exhibition, which will feature the quilts and quilters of Gee’s Bend. Garnet’s insight into the richness of quilting history and culture was fascinating. This year’s exhibit will be in London from August 9-14.

The Spring 2010 issue of The Canadian Quilter arrived this week, and I’m looking forward to sitting down and reading it from cover to cover. I have three more copies to give away, and they will go to the first 3 Canadians making a purchase on the site

Cover Art - Going Where It Takes Me

This week’s feature in the store is 10% off on all bundles and kits. For those with children or teens interested in learning to sew, March Break is the perfect time to tackle a new project. Many of the kits in the shop are perfect for beginners – easy to cut and sew!
