Summer Sew Along
Last summer I ran a series of posts for sewing projects using ½ yard cuts of Colorful Christmas from Riley Blake. It was a lot of fun, and the projects were a big hit at the Creativ Festival when I was there in October. You can find photos and links for all of last year’s projects here.
I’m looking forward to doing another sew along this year. My motivation is to get a head start on some holiday sewing. The projects are all relatively small, and each shouldn’t take more than 3-4 hours to complete. I’m using tutorials and patterns available for free on the internet. A few of the projects will require some straight line quilting, but nothing too complicated.
Week 1 – Apron
Week 2 – Table Runner
Week 3 – Tea Cozy
Week 4 – Gift Bag
Week 5 – Hot Pad
Week 5½ – Mug Rug
Week 6 – Journal Cover
I’ve put together 2 different bundles to use for the sew along – one with a holiday theme (Over The River by Barbara Jones of Quiltsoup), and the other is just for fun (Polka Dot Garden from In The Beginning Fabrics). Each bundle includes 9 – ½ yard cuts from the collection, plus 1 yard of a coordinating solid and 1 yard of Insul-Bright (thermal batting) that is needed for some of the projects.
Or use whatever fabric you like and/or have on hand. There are a couple of projects that need ½ yard cuts; others that need fat quarters, and the rest can be done with smaller pieces or scraps.
I’ll post the first project next week. In the meantine, I’m going to start by pre-washing my fabric, and saving all the selvedges (cut 1.5″ to 2″ off each selvedge and put them aside for later).
You can save 20% on either bundle for the rest of the month (sale ends September 1) .

Sounds like fun and I am looking for projects for a Santa Sac Swap I joined, will be watching. Sandra
